About Keele University
Keele University is most well known for its innovative approach towards higher education. Also well known is the extraordinarily beautiful campus of the university and the strong spirit of community that the University staff and students harbour. The student life of Keele University has been much talked about and students from all over the world apply to be a part of this rich and exciting University culture.
Keele University takes pride in being the first new university in the UK in the 20th century. The University was first established as the University College of North Staffordshire in the year 1949. Right from the beginning, the college had powers of conferring degrees to its graduates. In 1962, as a result of a lot of effort and superior quality services, the college was given the status of a University and was finally named the University of Keele.
Apart from the academics, in which Keele University has already won many accolades, the University also offers a very exciting and vibrant on campus life to both staff and students. Most of the students studying at the University, opt to stay on campus and are a part of excellent on campus entertainment. The University strives to build a balance in the student life, allowing them time off to interact with others on the campus as well.
The balance between academics and extra curricular activities allows students to obtain not only the best academic success rates, but also excellent employment as well. The University offers a wide range of academic as well as vocational subjects. The students can also opt for the dual honours programs which offer a major in two programmes simultaneously. There are more than 500 such dual honours programmes to choose from. There are also many single honours programmes as well.
In terms of infrastructure, the University is far superior to others in its league. Keele is acknowledged to have the largest integrated campus in the university. The campus is built on a large estate of 617 acres. The Keele Hall, which is an architectural marvel, is built in the style of 19th century architecture and is registered with the English Heritage as a grade II registration.
The University is located centrally in UK and therefore gives an easy access to most cities and towns of repute. It is easily accessible from all parts of the country and students can choose to be off campus, without worrying much about commuting. The University offers state of the art conferencing facilities to staff and students. It also has a well equipped science park which generates a substantial contribution to the local revenue.
The University also takes up many other activities, therefore generating a substantial business in the region. After the University turnover of about £102million, the University is also able to generate business of about £130m.
Keele University continuously strives to offer a broad based education and places a very high value on research and interdisciplinary education. The University also works closely in association with private and public sector undertakings in order to give maximum exposure to its students.
